This song is about a loss. It is mysteriously and hauntingly beautiful. The first time I heard it I broke out in tears because it's about heartbreak, sadness, darkness, and something unexpected you can't control that you're faced with. She is so vulnerable and fragile with her lyrics. I think this is one of her best songs and certainly one of my favorites.

I know most people relate this song to something physical, but when I hear it it makes me thing of the life that I could have had if I hadn’t gone through what I did. I was abandoned by both of my biological parents, and raised in a strictly religious and emotionally abusive household. My social growth was so stunted and I had so many struggles with mental health by the time I was a teenager. I never got to really be a child. My whole childhood was taken from me. I never got the normal experience of it, and I never will. I grieve that child every day, I grieve who I was when my life was ruined and who I could have been if I wasn’t hurt like that. I always wonder why it had to be me.

When I heard this song it resonated so much with how I feel. To me, the "I'm never gonna meet what could've been, would've been, what should've been you" is me never getting to see the person he was becoming and wanted to be. 💔 This song hits so hard to anyone who has lost someone close too soon.

I’ve always rooted for Taylor’s sadder songs because those tend to be her hidden gems. When Midnights came out, This song was absolutely one of these. It instantly became my favorite song because of how it perfectly captures the feeling of grief, any kind of grief. You could literally articulate this song into any grief you experienced.

While I eventually got it back and am doing much better now, I wish this song had been around when it had happened - I wish I had the words then to explain how I had built that future version of myself in my head and fallen in love with her, that I wasn't just mourning my dream but the girl that I was just about getting used to being. Maybe this wasn't the intended meaning, but it struck me the moment I heard it first.

Thank you Taylor Swift for making this song! It hits me right in the gut. Sept 11th 2020 my husband and I went to our first ultrasound appointment for our very first child. I should have been 9 to 10 weeks pregnant. We learned that our baby was measuring 7 weeks and had no heartbeat. I had no idea anything was wrong. I never had any symptoms that the baby was no longer alive. I miss my baby so so much but we got the surprise of our lives 6 months later when I fell pregnant with our beautiful little rainbow girl. I always say that her older sibling chose her to come into our lives!

I 100% think that this song is about pregnancy loss whether or not it's about Taylor's loss or someone close to her who knows obviously that's something so deeply personal she wrote about it but she doesn't need to answer your questions. But as an example Ed Sheeran wrote one of the most devastatingly sad songs about a stillbirth and it was his friend.

Ed sheeran wrote about a miscarriage too doesn’t mean he had one. It was about a friend’s miscarriage actually. Someone pointed out this could be written about lost potential, or the person you could’ve been. It could be about a lot of different things. Yes miscarriage or loss of a young child is the first thing that pops into most peoples minds but that doesn’t mean it was her experience she already proved with her last 2 albums she can write from different perspectives not just her own.

I've been an angel mom for 13 years now, and this song made it feel like yesterday. This is why I love music. It beautifully describes all of life.

The way this song united so many people collectively mourning really shows how powerful music is, and what an amazing song this is.

I read that this song was about losing a child, but it can mean so many things, like losing hope on finding the one, losing a loved one before they were old. For me being just over a year out from losing my child, it does feel that way because of my own personal bias. The beauty of music is that it means so much to so many. It's a wonderful song of loss and grief for something/someone tangible or an idea.

Like me losing my cat that I got when I was eight years old but was separated from him in foster care and he ended up with my grandma who let him run away and get eaten by coyotes. But now I’ve got a cat who’s so big and ferocious the coyotes are afraid of him and I’ve had him for 11 years as of my birthday on the 29th last month.

This hits hard with undertones of pregnancy loss. So incredibly well written and grief stricken in a way everyone can relate to when we suffer any loss. Whether pregnancy loss is the inspiration or not. I tip my heart to you Taylor.

Hauntingly beautiful and hits me so hard. I lost my late wife after only 13 months of marriage and it was such a short time and with an incredible future ahead of us. I’ve healed in the years since but this song takes me back to that intense pain and sadness searching desperately for meaning and answers.

I lost my mom in February of 2021 and my 10 year old nephew about three weeks ago. No matter how you interpret the song, it is about a loss. I grieve not only for the people I’ve lost but for lost time, for homes and places that don’t exist anymore. This song feels like that.

My sister in law found this song after losing my nephew three days before she was scheduled for a c section. He was their fourth and the baby that was a miracle as my brother had had a vasectomy that clearly didn’t work. His name is Edison and I will always love and miss him beyond words. He was a beautiful angel. 💔💔💔

I know this song is about loosing a child but I just recently had to put my dog down. She was my best friend and life is so lonely without her, the thought of continuing on and never seeing her again just breaks my heart constantly and it’s been so hard.

I don’t know what this song is actually about, but it’s taken a hold of all of us in the stillbirth community. My daughter was full term stillborn in December, taken from us in the very very last second. We watched all our plans fade before our eyes. Tomorrow is 7 weeks without her. I was listening to Taylor’s “Soon you’ll get better” a couple weeks ago when my mom suddenly started feeling unwell. Now I’m here listening to this song. R.I.P mom you were forever my best friend now guardian angel. 💜🕊️

I didn't know the significance of the birds. The first time I heard the song it punched right through my heart there was no doubt to me what it was about it's beautiful and haunting and so painful. I think to all of us who have lost a baby or child it has right away you know that pain. And Taylor is an incredibly brilliant writer and perhaps she wrote this from someone else's perspective for her own but she captured the pain so deeply. And no knowing the meaning of some of the beginning it sounds like a stillbirth. And everybody has been trying to play detective if it's about her, but Ed Sheeran about his friends stillbirth and it rips your heart into pieces.

This song resonates me in the deepest way. Closing the door on fertility treatments was and is a huge defining moment in my life. What could have been, would have been, should have been will forever go unknown. And a piece of me will forever wonder. I am a mother today, in the most poetic twist of my life that had absolutely nothing to do with me getting pregnant.

I'm hearing this song for the first time with my two beautiful daughters climbing all over me, but this song really takes me right back to losing my first baby. So raw.

why does this song wants me to embrace someone so thightly under the moonlight, dancing unconciously and just feel the warmth of each other's feelings of longing. idk why but this just makes me sad at the same time there's a sense of relief. it's innefable and I just like it.

I know a lot of people say this, but, Diana Alexis Culver, was truly exceptional. Such love, I have never seen, such a powerful Uniter of people. In my 65 years of life, I have never seen such an angel capable of disarming giants. There was no negative in her, only positive vibes. I guess heaven was short on angels, so she couldn’t stay longer, but did heaven really have to take the one angel that this divided world is in such need of right now?

We moved across country to be with her when my wife got a job with NASA. Our grand daughters name Diana Alexis Culver, is now physically on the surface of Mars taken there by NASA’S last rover mission. Our little Westie dog and Diana, had a real thing for each other. When she came over for a sleep night, he slept with her. So now, when we walk him every night before bedtime we look up to the sky and say goodnight to her.

This song makes my mind calm down when I feel such a broke.
