That is a way of thinking...but i also see it like... The person(Joe) never asked nor wanted anything from her. He was happy with who she was, not with what she had to offer. Not fame, money, status, or anything that had nothing to do with Taylor's real personality. So the opening of this song has so many brilliant aspects to it. She's making it clear she's doing his laundry, such an intimate living together as family with a partner thing to do, I mean she's somehow spying something inside HIS pocket, and she compares the size of the pebble to a firefly, which... she could've compared it to so many similarly super small things. But fireflies evoke a certain atmosphere and mood in the imagery! Fireflies fit the entire vibe and tone of this song so well, they are so wonderous and beautiful at times. And bring me back to the sensory experience of the weather when fireflies are out, and the twilight setting when they come out. And that's all in like... the first line or two basically. I just love SO much about this song!!
